Nacida en Breda, Holanda, en 1966.
Moerel estudio diseño de moda en Rotterdam (Holanda) y se licenció en escultura en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Exeter, Inglaterra.
Se graduó en el Royal College of Art en 1991 con un Master en diseño de mobiliario.
En 1993 se trasladó a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde trabajó durante 10 años como diseñadora freelance, artista y dando clases de diseño en la Parsons School of Design, desde 1995 al 99.
En busca de nuevos experiencias y fuentes de inspiración, en 2002 se traslada a Madrid donde abre su propio estudio/galería de diseño.
Desarrolla su propia linea de productos (diseño de mobiliario, iluminación, producto y accesorios) combinándolo con su trabajo para empresas de diseño conocidas internacionalmente como Cappellini, Celda, Covo , Kenzo, Offect y Wilsonart Int. Organiza coordina y dirige exposiciones de diseño tanto en Europa como en los Estados Unidos.
Born in Breda, the Netherlands in 1966.
Moerel studied fashion design in Rotterdam (NL), and received a BA (Hons) in sculpture from Exeter, England.
She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1991 with a Masters Degree in furniture design.
In 1993 she moved to New York City, where she worked for 10 years as freelance designer, artist, and taught furniture design at Parsons School of Design from 1995-1999.
In 2002, to expand her horizons and in search for new inspiration, Moerel moved to Madrid, Spain, where she established her own design studio/gallery.
From here she works on self-initiated projects, and has developed her own collection of objects which range from Furniture Design, Lighting, Product, and Accessories.
Besides producing her own line of products, she also works for internationally acclaimed design companies such as Cappellini, Celda, Covo, Fiorucci, Offect and Wilsonart Int. Both Moerel’s Art and Design have been published and exhibited extensively worldwide.
Marre Moerel Design Studio se asentó en Madrid en el año 2002 con la intención de aunar su labor profesional como estudio de diseño y showroom junto con la faceta más personal del trabajo creativo con proyectos propios.
El trabajo del estudio aborda los campos del diseño industrial de mobiliario, productos, iluminación y accesorios sin dejar de lado los proyectos de interiorismo.
Las colecciones más personales de MMDS están habitualmente enfocadas en la cerámica artesanal. Piezas, sobre todo de iluminación y de menaje , que buscan expresar la belleza inherente en la naturaleza y sus materias primas y trasladarla a los objetos de producción y uso diario.
La intención del trabajo de MMDS es crear piezas que puedan convivir en el tiempo con un espíritu contemporáneo que fusiona las referencias históricas con un especial sentido del humor y delicadeza.
Marre Moerel Design Studio settled in Madrid in 2002 with the intention of combining their professional work as a design studio and showroom with the more personal aspect of creative work through their own projects.
The work of the studio addresses the fields of industrial design of furniture, products, lighting and accessories while not forgetting interior design projects.
MMDS’s most personal collections are usually focused on craft ceramic. Pieces, especially lighting and kitchenware, that seek to express the beauty inherent in nature and its raw materials and transfer it to the production and everyday use items.
The aim of the work of MMDS is to create pieces that can coexist in time with a contemporary spirit that combines historical references with a special sense of humor and sensitivity.
